Catmaze is a decent little metroidvania with some nice pixel art and an interesting Slavic mythology inspired setting. I liked the exploration and the feeling of gradually unlocking new areas and abilities, but the overall experience didn’t really click with me.

The combat is fairly basic and can feel repetitive after a while, while the amount of backtracking gets a bit tiring. The story and quests also didn’t manage to keep me very interested, so I found myself playing more out of curiosity than genuine excitement.

It’s not a terrible game, and I can see why some people might enjoy it, but there are too many little things that bothered me to recommend it.
