Mad Max is one of those games where the journey is literally the destination, mostly because you'll be spending most of your time behind the wheel.
Let's start with the on-foot combat. It’s simple but incredibly fun. It has that classic, rhythmic brawler feel but with a lot of weight behind it, every punch, parry and dropkick is so impactful that it genuinely feels like you are the one hitting them.
But honestly? The car combat completely steals the show. Taking your ride out into the wasteland is easily the best part of the game. Ramming, grinding and shooting at enemy convoys while tearing through the desert at high speeds is an absolute blast. It perfectly captures that chaotic, roaring-engine energy of the movies.
Where the game stumbles a bit is the open-world design. Exploring the wasteland is cool at first but it gets pretty boring after a while. The map is absolutely flooded with optional loot locations and scavenging camps and the loop of clearing them out gets very repetitive.
As for the story, it’s... fine. It's not a masterpiece but it's not terrible either. It's basically a post-apocalyptic John Wick. Someone steals his beloved car and he gets really, really mad about it. That being said, the narrative does take a turn later on. Honestly, that emotional damage toward the end was completely unnecessary.
Overall the open-world structure can be a bit of a chore but building your car and fighting your way through this gorgeous, dusty post-apocalyptic wasteland is still a genuinely fun time.
