Mediocre
In the vast sea of indie releases, there exists a particular 2D platformer meets tower defense hybrid that tries its best to catch the tide but barely makes a ripple. It's not offensively bad; it’s competent, even charming in places. The pixel art is polished, the mechanics functional, and the premise, a fusion of action platforming with strategic turret placement, sounds like it should be engaging. But like a well-prepared meal made without seasoning, it lacks that spark, that punch, that thing that actually makes you remember the game after finishing. It almost gives me post-nut clarity, like, did I really spend my time playing this? The game shifts between combat and construction in a rhythm that becomes repetitive far too quickly. You run, you jump, you slap down a few turrets, and repeat. The enemy waves come, they die, you move on. There’s a story woven through all this, about ancient tech and chosen warriors, but it unfolds with the energy of someone reading lore off the back of a cereal box. You’re supposed to care, but you probably won’t. Not because it’s bad, it’s just flat. The moment-to-moment gameplay isn’t broken or tedious, but it's rarely compelling. You can feel the designers aiming for something that stands out, and maybe in co-op, it might. Maybe with a friend by your side, setting up defences and laughing in the chaos, the pieces would click into place. But alone, it feels more like a shell of a good time than something real. The visuals carry a warm glow, clearly crafted with love, but art direction can only carry so much weight when the core experience struggles to leave a mark. Like a dream you half-remember after waking up, it's there and it's gone, leaving behind a faint memory and the thought: “Oh yeah, I played that.” Ultimately, this is a game that thrives on that couch co-op magic that turns mediocrity into nostalgia. But if you’re going solo, do yourself a favour: skip it. Your time is worth more than silence and flickering pixels.
