Deadlink is fun for the first few minutes (maybe an hour?), but it gets incredibly repetitive, boring and/or frustrating really soon. Don't get me wrong, it looks and feels great, with a lot of cool mechanics and from the start of the first run it encourages to use every single one of them constantly (swapping weapons, grappling hook, melee, dash and so on), so, if you are into fast-paced shooters, undoubtedly you will have a great time at the start. Then, why the thumbs down? Even when the player mechanics are a lot of fun to try, enemies are not enjoyable to fight. Through the whole run, you will realize that you are basically doing exactly the same, against the same enemies (yeah, some of them change design, but their behavior is exactly the same) with the main difference that will be constantly adding more and more damage sponges, surrounded by little enemies that won't stop chasing you. And if you didn't get bored enough with that, then they will add damage sponges throwing homing missiles or having shields. You didn't have enough? Then take some healers who will also be damage sponges, so you will be trapped in the same room trying to kill these guys with huge hp bars, who keep healing, while you get surrounded by immortal fast enemies who keep chasing you (yes, immortal ones, because the healing they provide is instantaneous to full hp). And, if you manage to clear a room of this incredibly tedious encounter, remember that in the next room you have to repeat again... and again... AND AGAIN. Also, be careful not to get stuck, because (I forgot to mention that), since area 3, the stage layout is terrible, mostly trying to get in your way and block your vision,
Deadlink counts with a pretty decent amount of upgrades and characters for you to try different combinations and buffs that will trigger depending on the way you build it (getting different boosts when you change weapon, use your skill, use the grappling hook or destroy stuff), but everything goes to waste after a few minutes in the run, because, at some point, only damage output will matter.
Bosses are the same situation, just a huge hp bar, with attacks that are not hard to avoid, but you get constantly surrounded by endlessly spawning minions. Yet again, this probably won't bother you too much during the first boss encounter, but then it just repeats and repeats (oh yeah, and bosses won't change between runs).
Another bad aspect about the game is meta-progression. There is some, but it is really slow, so, if you are having trouble to beat an area, it will take a while 'till those permanent upgrades can help you.
Really sad about this one, because I was excited to play it and, like I mentioned, had one hell of a time during my first 30 minutes, but got way too disappointed. Go play Roboquest instead, it's way better and it also has co-op.
