Teen Drama Llama Simulator, circa 2008. Emily is Away starts out interesting but its key mechanic, spam typing gibberish to advance the pre-written plot responses, really harms the impact. Strong suggestion here to have the on-screen keyboard up and running so you can spam-click your way through dialogue otherwise you'll be at this one all day.

This game's fairly hard to review without ruining the plot. Suffice to say it revolves around deceit and true friends in equal parts, with a healthy dose of amazingly bad period music. Amazingly bad as in I used to listen to some of this stuff...for some reason. Recreations of old websites lots of us visited is the best part of Emily is Away, the early Facebook knockoff being surprisingly interactive to the point it includes some lousy hidden Flash games.

A single play-through will run you about five hours, to 100% the game you're probably looking at around 20 due to multiple endings. All achievements work, many can be unlocked quickly via a Guide on the hub if you're not up for hunting secrets.

Worth a run through if acquired in a bundle, but otherwise I'd wait for a steep sale before picking Emily is Away up.
